Common Themes in Writing

[info]jolantru posted this meme about common themes in your writing.

Mine include: linguistics, extra sexes/genders, street children, dragons, Paganism, magic, feminism, cooperative living, abandoned/found babies, poetic justice, science as a solution, walking away from bad situations, oh yeah? watch me, turning disadvantages into advantages, stars and moons, evolution ...

Can you think of other things you frequently see in my writing?

And what are some of your favorite themes?

I enjoyed this post about building a very small house.  Not everyone needs large amounts of living space.

Torture and Illegality

Here's a thorough article about torture.

My stance: Torture is evil.  It is something that evil people and nations do, and consider okay to do.  It is not something that good people and nations do or consider okay to do; they are wholeheartedly against it, as it is evil.  Torture is illegal in America and many other countries.  Counting torture illegal is a sign of civilization; permitting it is a sign of barbarism.

Ponzi Nation

Yes: ponzi crime, ponzi economy, ponzi politicians, ponzi executives, ponzi society.  It all ends the same way.

Ponzi Nation: How Get-Rich-Quick Crime Came to Define an Era
Andy Kroll, TomDispatch.com: "Every great American boom and bust makes and breaks its share of crooks. The past decade - call it the Ponzi Era - has been no different, except for the gargantuan scale of white-collar crime. A vast wave of financial fraud swelled in the first years of the new century. Then, in 2008, with the subprime mortgage collapse, it crashed on the shore as a full-scale global economic meltdown. As that wave receded, it left hundreds of Ponzi and pyramid schemes, as well as other get-rich-quick rackets that helped fuel our recent economic frenzy, flopping on the beach."

Music Video: "Look"

Here is a lovely (but NSFW) music video featuring an animated picture of a woman's backside.  While the animation is carefree, the concept design is really clever.
